Hi!

Today, I present to you SearchWithMyBrowser, a little tool to open your Cortana searches in your default browser. Since April 28th, Cortana opens Edge, to force Bing upon you.

SearchWithMyBrowser fixes this. It redirects searches to your default browser. If you have anything that redirected searches to another search engine, it will still work.

Installation
First, you need to download the app.

When it's done downloading, run the installer and follow the instructions.

To correctly associate the protocol, search for anything with Cortana and select SearchWithMyBrowser as default.

Done!

If you have any problems or question, feel free to file and issue on GitHub or leave a post here.

To install, simply double-click on It should pop-up an UAC. After you approve it, it should ask you to move the file to a permanent location (it'll stay there until you remove SearchWithMyBrowser) and paste it's location without quotes.

After doing that, it should write a little message and ask to press a key. After doing so, the file association dialog should open and ask you to choose between Edge and SearchWithMyBrowser. Select SearchWithMyBrowser and approve.

I actually just did this, following all the instructions up to this point; and it didn't work. After running install.cmd, I moved the SearchWithMyBrowser.exe file to a new directory, copied the file path to my cmd window, and hit enter. It gave the expected dialogue and asked to press any key to continue. When the App Option dialogue box opens, though, is when the problem occurs. It only shows the options of Microsoft Edge and Look for an App in the Store. It doesn't give me the option to select the exe file. Is there any possible fix for this, or any reason you can think of for why this is happening; or rather, for why it isn't happening?

When I do searches in Cortana, the search only works if it finishes with ".com". Otherwise I am unable to get to do the proper search.

Sorry for the late answer. Vacations kept me busy

Try running
"<Location of file>\SearchWithMyBrowser.exe /register
in a admin command prompt.

Then run
rundll32.exe shell32.dll,OpenAs_RunDLL microsoft-edge:
and select SearchWithMyBrowser as the default.

This program works awesome when you put a website (including ".com") in the Cortana search bar; but i can't figure out how to direct the search to google without the ".com".

Any insight?
