Lumia 720 problems - australia

I bought this phone early february this year and on the 3rd day I had to hard reset it because it would not turn on at all. After a few months of excellent performance, I noticed that the phone has begun to slow down alot with the loading screen appearing for longer and longer periods. Eventually some apps refused to even open especially messenger and the pre installed facebook app, both of which I have reinstalled on numerous occasions. Live toast notifications never come to me while the phone is locked and only after I unlock it does a flood of updates come. some cases toast notifications from apps came 3-4 hours after I had seen the message and replied duly to them. I am not sure why this is happening as it has been going on since the day after I hard ressetted it. I cannot send photos via sms as an error message pops up always and the phone freezes alot lately even though I have about 1.2 gb of system memory free. apps such as goal live score update 15 minutes after the actual goal has been scored and that's only after I've unlocked the phone and had it unlocked for a long period of time. Does anybody know what is wrong and how the phone can be fixed?

Hey can you post your OS and firmware version. If your phone is on windows phone 8.0 go to phone settings /wifi /advanced/tap on keep wifi on when screen times out. Are those apps enabled in background task. Live tiles (sports app , news apps ) does not update in real time. They refresh automatically after every 30 min.

the operation system is windows phone and the version is the latest one available for my region so the one before windows 8.1.

Is the automatic updates for apps every 30 mins a windows phone problem or does it extend out to every other os on the market aswell?

In windows phone 8.0 there was a restriction that live tiles will update after a period of time where as this has changed in windows phone 8.1. Developers have the option to refresh the live tiles every minute. Also check if apps are enabled in background task (go into phone settings /swipe to applications tab / background task )

i checked the background tasks and it says that some apps are enabled to run in the background. the ones which do not update for me are all enabled with only things like maps disabled.

It depends when your carrier will approve the update. It's likely that windows phone 8.1 + Nokia cyan update will be available by July -August. But you can get OS update (8.1 update ) via developer preview program. To read more about this , please read this thread
