Lumia 1020 not updating to Update 3

Hi. I recently got a Lumia 1020 that was with Telus. I unlocked because my carrier is Fido. The phone's OS is 8.0.10328.78 and will not install Update 3. Every time I try, I get an error message. It generally says that I do not have a stable connection even though I am using Wifi on the phone and I am using Wifi with my laptop as well. I cannot install the update using data because I only have 300MB a month. I also tried using 3 different Wifi locations and I have done both hard and soft resets. I did a hard reset and as soon as the screen lit up, I tried to do an update. I don't know why I am having this problem

Did the error message include a code? If so, refer to Microsoft Support to find out what your problem might be.

OP here. In the end I had to put in a Telus SIM card. The update to Lumia Black worked then. After that I was able to update to WP8.1 with my SIM card.
