Google doesn't allow nicknames on YouTube anymore?

I've just made a new YouTube account (a Google account in fact...) and it shows my name given during the registration. I've had a YT profile with a nick for a couple of years but it got fu... messed up by all this prompts "connect to G+", so I've decided to delete it and get a new one. Is there a way to use a nickname like before or I'm stuck with everything I put in the name section of Google +?

I've had the same problem. They seem to want you to use first and last names, and nicknames only if you really MUST. I tried to register my username...the one I use here...but couldn't see how and eventually got fed up with it and packed it in. Ditto with Facebook, which I uninstalled because of it. You may care to view How To Change Google Plus Username on YouTube...afraid I can't be bothered for myself.
