For the last few handsets I have gotten, people tell me you must charge them for 12 or more hours before using them, or it will ruin the battery.
Is this a myth? The last one I got (Lumia 920) was over 50% charged when I got it.
What do you folks do?

Just a myth. My mum used to charge it up for a while when you get the phone, but that was when I was younger and I had to use her "assistance" when I was unboxing gadgets.

These days I do it myself, I'm so eager I get straight into turning it on and testing it out. I've done this with my Samsung ST72 Camera, Acer Iconia tablet, and Lumia 620. I've not experienced any problems! It's fine, by my standards. :P
