can an unlocked Nokia lumia 920 become locked again?

Hell and want to thank you for any help. First of all I'm not rel knowledgeable with these phones but I had a lumia 920 I used with straight talk. Used it for a few months then decided I wanted something different. I factory reset my phone and took out my Sim card. Sold the phone on ebay , now the guy who got this phone said "his trusted t mobile technician can't get it to work and that the phone is locked". Does anyone have any ideas?

Was it ever unlocked?

Straight Talk uses either AT&T or T-Mobile SIMs. If you were using an AT&T Straight Talk SIM, the device wouldn't have needed to be unlocked.

No it cannot be locked again as far as I know.
Because that'd be ridiculous.

Both suggestions above are reasonable possibilities, but I'm inclined to get behind Laura's explanation.
