Problems composing new emails when no signal

Hello,

I noticed that since I updated to WP 8.1 I can no longer compose a new email when I am in a signal-free area. This is most evident when I am on the London Underground, as I quite often try to send emails on my way to work. I can open my inbox, but cannot scroll up or down and none of the four buttons (New, Select, Sync, Search) do anything, although they light up to show that I am clicking on them.

This goes hand-in-hand with a side issue, which is that I can no longer connect to the free WiFi on the London Underground. It has always worked fine, but the moment I updated the OS (which was a couple of weeks ago), it refuses to connect, despite it appearing as an available WiFi in my list and I can see other people using it. The email issue wouldn't be such a problem if the Wifi still worked, but it just seems bizarre that I can no longer read emails that are (supposedly) stored on the phone when I am not standing in an area with signal.

Has anyone had any similar issues or is this just me?

Well I just tried simulating that by putting Flight Mode on, and it all worked perfectly.

Maybe if you tried Flight Mode on the tube it would work for you?
