International Travel with Nokia Lumia 1020

I'm going to be traveling to Aruba and plan on getting a Lumia 1020 as my next phone...taking the plunge from the Iphone 5. My question is: can I operate the camera while the phone is in the "Airplane Mode On"? I do not plan on using cell or text on my trip because I don't want to get hit with ANY roaming fees. We'll use the free WI-FI in the resort.
Thanks for any help you can give me. Otherwise, I'll be dragging along my Canon camera that seems so out dated now!

Short answer: Yes

With airplane mode on, you can use literally any function of the phone that does not require cellular connectivity like any other.
(you could easily test this too!)
