My phones internal memory seems to be filling up very quickly. Ive had my 630 for a couple of weeks now and the internal memory left is only 2.57gb out of 7.28. I bought a 16gb sd card to store all my files and downloads and changed my settings to store everything but apps on the sd card.

In storage sense it says apps and games are 1.28gb and system is 3.17gb, There is also a folder titled other.

My problem is that I cannot access any of these in my phone or through micro usb on my laptop. I realize that system files should be kept alone, but I really want to see where all my space is going. I have also downloaded some mp3s that have completely vanished. I am running 8.1 developer preview, I wonder does my phone store old os backups also that I do not need. The system folder seems a bit congested at 3.17gb

Does anyone know how to access these hidden folders ???
I have tried connecting to my laptop and checking the hidden items box in view.

thanks

  • try the appropriate soft reset for your device - hold POWER for ~~10-15 seconds until it vibrates
  • check OTHER or TEMP files for size in Storage Sense
  • clear your Internet cache, both IE & Bing (Cortana)
  • click TEMP files & click DELETE (it'll possibly clear some of the OTHER) both on the phone & SDcard in Storage Sense - then REPEAT this last process - I just cleared ~~ 150mb from OTHER on my phone !
  • you are aware, you can move Apps & Games to your SDcard (one by one - go for hi storage apps)

... and it's good practice to reboot your device ~~ once a week ! does a lot of good things

How large is your "Other" folder, I hear it can get pretty bloated and you can clean it through your PC.

Short of rooting, which isn't possible yet on Windows Phone, you can't get access to the system files.

My methodology does work (to an extent - try it) - I've been unable to address OTHER directly ...

While looking for ways to clear up memory, I came across an app in the store called cache cleaner. I figured Id give it a try. I believe it works by filling the unused space in memory thus triggering the phones automatic mechanism for clearing out junk to free up memory. Before running this my system memory was at 3.17 gb and my other folder was about 90 mb. After running it, my other folder was empty and my system folder was 3.03gb. Seems to have done the trick, would still like to be able to view these files though

The funny thing is I had the exact problem yesterday and posted a way round. For some reason storage sense is crap at deleting other files. Use Lumia storage check and that gets rid of it straight away
