Messaging app consuming battery

Hello friends,
Today i fully charged my Lumia 925. After a few minutes, say 20 mins i opened the built in battery saver to check the apps running in background. To my suprise, battery saver showed me that messaging app was the leading consumer with the app running in background all that time. I never opened the app and as you know you cannot stop it running in as you can with other apps.
Can anyone help to explain if its normal or there is something wrong
