WPCentral Question

A quick question forum is an awesome thing.

Never owned a smart phone, but am considering a Lumia 1020. I wonder about the fate of the device down the road. After it's retired, can it be used as a camera, offline, with no carrier account active?

Thanks

Yes, you can use it as a camera offline no issues. You might want to use Wi-Fi to backup your photos as the onboard storage may not be enough.

Any Windows Phone can function without cellular connectivity. Heck, most any phone can do that. I have a 2004 Palm Treo that still works as well as I'm sure it did when it was made, despite Palm being long gone and Cingular being bought.

So the answer to your question is Yes. and then some.

It would make an awesome camera and media device all in one... WiFi away and all that...

Get the camera grip with extra battery and go nuts.
