Why can't I play non owned music in xbox music?

I have an Xbox music pass and have been able to successfully listen to any music in the Xbox music app (computer/surface/phone) or on the web without a problem. Then my app is updated and now it says that it can't play on this device. Any of the songs I own I can still listen to on any of my devices and I can still stream any of the songs in a web browser, but it won't let me play through the app anymore. Any ideas?
