Are there still a lot of apps compatible with windows 8?

I have so far liked my dev preview on my 521, but I have noticed that is overall seems to lag quiet a bit, especially with apps, music players, or games. So I've been wondering if it was a good idea to downgrade to WP 8 to save myself some headaches until the actual update gets aired. I mostly use things like whatsapp, kik, facebook beta, messenger, and all those other things.

I'm sure most everything is retro compatible for WP 8... I don't use any of those you listed, but 8.1 is hardly out in official version...
