So i was wondering, who are Microsoft's rivals and who are Microsoft's partners (if any) ? Also if you can add some neutral companies that work with Microsoft from time to time ?

Ex. Google - Rival

Re: Microsoft's Friends and Enemies

Apple isn't in the rivals section.

Seriously though, however aggressive MS's marketing against Apple is, statistics says very few Windows users go for a Mac, while almost no Mac users convert to Windows. Apple just doesn't build computers designed to have a majority market share worldwide. They just proved that with the (ridiculous) iPhone 6 pricing - now sure, phones have a huge market share, but were you to consider the whole world including developing regions, Apple could never gain a majority market share even with the iPhone. And no, the 5C didn't help that very much either :D Moreover, Apple has made steps towards Windows (iCloud Drive on Windows) as well as Redmond making ones to work with Apple users (although the wait for the new Office is way too long :D)

Those lists are too long :p plus, that's too vague a question. For example, in what field? And even then, some of those enemies/friends in one field may be the exact opposite in another field. For example, for a while, Sony was their friend in the PC space, but they've been "enemies" in the console wars. If someone has too much time on their hands they could make one kicka** Venn diagram.

I'm more inclined to say that Microsoft and Apple are actually more of brothers, each trying to outdo the other, but will give a helping hand if need be.

The Apple App Store is ran by Azure. ;)

For all of the adversarial behavior at times, these technology companies still use and rely on each other's technology a fair amount. Microsoft puts a lot of content up on youtube!

Not to mention, Siri and Spotlight on Mac and iPhone use the Bing engine!

I would like to consider Facebook a "friend", in that Microsoft have a small stake in the social network company.
