Latest BBC iPlayer Downloads not working in Windows 8,1
I uninstalled the previous iPlayer downloads as it had stopped working on my Dell Inspiron17R - OS Windows 8.1
Any attempts to install new downloader or programmes fail. Reported this to BBC and this was their final advice:

We understand you have experienced difficulties reinstalling BBC iPlayer Downloads.
We would suggest you try uninstalling and reinstalling again as we've since updated the BBC iPlayer Downloads application.
I have tried to do this and it appears to download to VLC player location, but I can't do anything else with it after that. I can't find an app that seems to work for it. Streaming programmes is the option I am left with and not always satisfactory as internet connection not great,
Am I missing something that I should be doing to be able to download from iPlayer?
Any advice appreciated.
