If that doesn't respond try a soft reset, power+ Volume down.

Do a soft reset power + Volume down button. Normally if the SIM becomes unresponsive simply turning off and on the phone works.

I would add that you should hold down the power + Volume down button for at least 8 seconds or until you feel the second vibration. The first vibration happens almost immediately so wait for the second one. Hope these suggestions halp.
