Why can't I continue typing a text message after using the spacebar?

Cannot continue typing text message after using spacebar

When I begin typing a text message the first word shows up but once I press the spacebar nothing I type will show up in the message box or the suggestions bar even though the letters on the keyboard highlight as they are pressed. If I lock my phone and then unlock it I can type again until I press the spacebar. The problem also occurs in the OneNote app but not on IE.
I have a Nokia Lumia 620 with Windows 8.1.

I am having the exact same problem but with the nokia lumia 520. did you find out what happened, or how it can be fixed

That happens on my Lumia 920. When it happens I go into my messages and type in another convo. And keep repeating until it works. Or I go into Cortana or search and start typing
