How to export/ import contacts?

I want to hard reset my HTC 8X and I want to start fresh, but keep my contacts.
Is there anyway I can do that? I don't want my phone to download all apps.

Your contacts are automatically synced to your Live account.
When starting from fresh you log in with this account first, thus getting your contacts back. When you get to the part about restoring there is an option to start afresh.
So all your contacts, non of your apps.

Yes I do agree with Rick Air's answer, just check it with the same way. You can keep your contacts safe..
