Hi,

1. Is flashing an AT&T "locked" Nokia Lumia 920 with Indian ROM possible? Will doing so unlock the phone?

2. If the phone is AT&T "unlocked" is it possible to flash it with an Indian ROM?

3. Anybody who has bought an AT&T unlocked phone from eBay, did the phone work well with other networks? Can someone from India confirm this?

4. Any other thing I should keep in mind while buying an AT&T unlocked Lumia 920?

Thanks a ton!

1. Its possible. I have the French ROM on my ATT 920.
It will not unlock the phone. I wish it did though.

2. You can flash it no matter what, I can't say about the status of the unlock though. Should remain intact.
Keep the unlock code onhand if you can just in case.

3. The phone will work on other GSM networks, the question is how well. Radio band/frequency differences mean it gets 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE on ATT. But on another carrier, that might not be the case. Check out the carrier you intend to use, and compare to this model's bands.

4. Unless you flash it, its tied to ATT for updates.
Bands might differ from others, such as the international 920 model, or Canadian ROGERS one.
Do not buy it under almost any circumstances if it is locked. ATT does not unlock secondhand devices.
They are rather unlock hostile.

To Point 2 regarding the unlock code, should I be expecting the code from the seller? I reside in India and will be using the phone in India. The seller is in Hong Kong / China. The device he is selling is ATT unlocked phone.

In India there are no locked phones. This means the Indian ROMs are for unlocked phones. So when I flash an ATT unlocked phone with Indian ROM, do the bands change too? I.e., will the phone be completely compatible with the Indian networks? What decides the band? A hardware component in the phone or the firmware? Thanks!

It could already be unlocked, where I would assume it would not need the unlock code ever again, but who knows. Can't hurt to ask.
Hardware decides the bands.
The Software ROM may or may not touch those, but under no circumstances will a phone work on bands it does not physically have.
