Ativ S or HTC 8X?

Wanted to try out windows phone without breaking the bank. These two will cost me the same.

Well, I think than ATIV S is better than 8X. But, NOKIA Lumia 820 offers the same experience. It only costs 200$.

I think HTC 8X have better support for updates than Samsung when it comes to Windows Phone, and it also looks better in my opinion. Have you taken a look at a Lumia too?
