What is this static screen on my Lumia 1020 (wp8.1)?

what is this static screen on my lumia 1020 (wp8.1)?

i have been using my lumia as normal and twice i have had this weird thing where my screen is filled with static like you'd see on an old tv. my phone basically slows down and starts to lag and then this static comes up. the weird thing about it is at first you would think that it is frozen but when you actually press the unlock button and double tap the screen the lights in the buttons at the bottom come on showing that the phone hasn't actually frozen as i managed to turn the phone off without actually seeing the screen through the static (by holding down the unlock button and swiping the screen down). i probably haven't explained that very clearly but thats the best i can explain as i don't have a picture. when i turn the phone on again it works fine but its just strange, especially the tv static that comes up i mean i would have expected a blank screen or blue screen or something along those lines but not old fashioned tv static? (and before anyone asks i have not installed any new apps for about a month)

If you mean vertical lines then that's a hardware problem. It could be the display cable or the GPU chipset itself is damaged. Very rarely is software glitch. I would watch the phone very carefully if I were you

but its not vertical lines its static, like fuzzy static that you'd see on old analog tvs (btw i started this thread when i wasn't logged in :s)

Well that's new, I haven't read anyone complain about this before. It would help if you can somehow replicate the event and post some pictures may be?

I guess it's the AMOLED screen problem (hardware issue). Had this issue sporadically on my Samsung Omnia W too. Be warned to backup your contents as it will eventually conk off totally without advance notice. You can still boot up and down, but won't be able to see a single soul on your screen. Happened to my Omnia W.

Buy a spare phone to standby and if you are travelling, bring along a spare phone.

I don't know what's causing it and while I was out with a friend today his phone did exactly the same thing and he has a different lower spec lumia, if you type tv static on google the first picture that shows up is what the screen looks like. If it happens again Il take a picture but its not really anything special, it just lags a bit and goes straight to static while the phone works underneath? It seems like a software thing because of the fact that it has happened on my phone and my friends but not sure what could be causing it?

If it's software then flashing the firmware completely using Nokia Recovery should help.

I had this issue on my Lumia 925. Same exact issue, very rare to occur. It is a software issue. I gave up and flashed my phone, have not seen it since.

EDIT: Would always happen on the lockscreen when powering up the display.

Its ok its only happened twice and I can just turn it off by imagining the screen but I was just curious as to what it was

I had this issue on my Lumia 925. Same exact issue, very rare to occur. It is a software issue. I gave up and flashed my phone, have not seen it since.

EDIT: Would always happen on the lockscreen when powering up the display.

My phone has been doing this more and more twice last month and today it did it for over an hour arrgg its so frustrating
