Is it possible to modify the OS on Windows Phone 8.1?

I want to modify my phone's operating system so that it does things like let me view detailed notifications for more than one app on the lockscreen, let me slide a notification on the lockscreen to open the related app, change the default search engine to Google, and make other tweaks that I think would be helpful, similar to what's possible with registry editor on a desktop. I do have access to Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate.

You'd have to make a lockscreen app similar to tetra lock screen for those functions because the OS isn't tweakable. You can change the default search engine in IE settings but it doesn't affect the search button. Just IE.

WP is not Android to make such modifications, it's a closed source OS. And if you want Google search, IE has a setting to change the default search provider to Google.
