Dropping icon: An iconic mistake?

i know it's too late for this question but still i am gonna ask for your views here. When i first heard about it i was shocked . really shocked but i thought all things happens for a reason. and i headed for ebay to get one for subsidized price but boy...oh boy they were rocket high and i thought give it some time. still after 1 month prices are higher than they were before which bring me to the main question was dropping icon a mistake or i am the only one who thinks so.
