Why does my phone constantly have a lighting bolt on?

I can't get it to do anything because the lighting bolt is on

Yeah...

Hold Volume Down & Power buttons until the phone vibrates (about 5 seconds). Your phone will loose all data, but factory reset and boot back up.

If that fails to get a response, do a web search for "<phone model> hard reset" and follow those instructions.
