Don't know if it CAN, but the display is only 540 pixels wide if I remember correctly.
If it does, then there isn't much benefit over 480p I believe.

I'm sure it would get down-converted to fit the screen if your player is decent. The screen itself is not high enough of a resolution.

I have tried some mp4s 720p play fine but 1080p don't play smooth limitation of the gpu
