Text reply notification

My wife has an 8x. A couple of her friends send out group texts. My wife's phone gets every reply and notification sound as the group responds to the original sender.
Its annoying and unnecessary.
How can I stop it from doing that?

Its not ideal I know, but she could 'mute' the text message? This can be done by going to the messaging app, then holding down on the desired message group, then pressing 'mute'. In case you do not know, this means no notifications are received for the message anymore until it is unmuted.
