Why do some apps like Messenger and Skype not close with back button?

Why do some apps like messenger and skype not close with back button

whenever I open some apps like messenger, skype, facebook and try to close them with the back button they go to the start menu but still running (just like pressing the start button) and I have to close them by holding back and tapping on X . How can i fix this , it's annoying.
