how to I get my WM 8.1 phone to display appointments in 12-hour format?

Just updated my WM 8 phone to 8.1. Calendar items are displaying in 24-hour clock format, even though in Settings > date+time, have set 24-hour clock to OFF. "Set date and time automatically" and "Set time zone automatically" are both ON.
