Why do deleted emails reappear on my phone?

My Lumia 928 just received the 8.1 update and now emails form my Comcast email account keep reappearing in my inbox after I've deleted them from my phone. How can I fix this?

Usually happens after an update or phone reset.

If you look at the e-mail account settings there are options to choose how far back to sync.
You can sync based on usage or do it manually and fetch e-mails from 7 days to a year back if still on the server.
