Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

I own a low end WP, Lumia 525. I hate all those splash screen and loading freebies (not gonna talk about resuming lag) from MS but I blame my device being low end. I don't know how things are in flagships. But it doesn't end up there. I can experience splash screen in Windows PC as well. Even for a smallest app in this world. Why? And not as much frequent as WP, store apps close within seconds when minimized.

My PC is 3rd Gen Intel Core i5, 4GB RAM, 1 GB radeon 7XXX series graphics. Sometimes I think why MS, world's largest software company is having this problem? Do they lack as good talent as Google/Apple possess lately?

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

Are you on the Preview for Developers? You are likely to see a few more "loading..." or "resuming..." screens on your 520 using that, as it's not optimised software. If you're seeing these messages all the time it might be an idea to check whether you have a lock screen app installed (this can cause "loading..." excessively. Alternatively, back up your phone and reset it and in my experience it has solved any of these issues.

You have to bear in mind, though some apps aren't as optimised by the developer as well and you're inevitably going to get some apps your phone has to load.

As for your other PC software issues you're going to need to be more specific.

I think you didnt get me. I m talking about Windows 8.1 PC. Yes same problem exists on WP as well but why a PC? Regarding PC, for instance when i open Mail why do I have to go through big mail icon instead of jumping into app itself? same is the cse with every apps.

I don't get it.splash screen are the thing which we cannot remove and is in the hands of Microsoft.I just posted the links of the website where you can give Microsoft a suggestion for improving their products and the links I posted have google in it does not mean that i am redirecting you to some other stuff.being lazy I just copied links directly from Google search engine and nothing else.

Its okay. I already know about the uservoice site but just wanted to discuss with the forum and have you people's view in this matter. I am not saying we can fix this but can come to a useful reasoning right?

Because it's loading. The faster your computer, the less time you should spend on the splash screen. I wish all WP apps showed a splash screen instead of loading........................... It really does get annoying seeing it over and over again.

And system apps can be updated from the store I think so it's probably slightly separated from the OS, like the system apps in WP 8.1

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

It generally doesn't depend on the speed of the processor for how long the splash screen will stay. It will be there long enough for the data to be read from the disk. When I switched from a HDD to an SSD, the splash screens practically disappeared, and were barely noticeable. Also, more RAM to preload often used software helps. When running an SSD with 16GB of 2133MHz RAM, it was rare to experience the splash screen for any of the MS Office apps. You tapped or clicked the icon, and it was there. BOOM. No hesitation, couldn't count to one, it was just there.

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

I think of it as a way to show something else while the app loads/opens. I'd rather see a splash screen, or a loading message, than just a blank screen for 5 seconds until the app is fully open. That way at least I know it's opening, and I'm not just waiting for nothing.

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

As far as i know, the splash screen appears only when the app is opened for the first time on W8.1. After that unless its closed, you won't see the splash screen again. The splash screen is there to give the app some time to load for the first time. Also only apps that support fast resume don't have splash screens on reopening them on WP8.1.1

Why the loading and also splash screen?see android all the apps open instantly when compared to splash screen on Windows phone even on low end hardware

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

yea its kind of annoying, if I had outlook as my homepage on IE11 and did a fresh start it would open twice as fast as the damn outlook app with its splash screen, having loading screens for tiny apps like that, with a 980X + SSD that's not fair, but well, everything is aimed at crappy 300$ laptops nowadays

Sorry to say its not the problem with any laptop with cheap hardware but a problem with software.Try making an simple text app in app studio.when i made a story teller app which has only text it, hell it got a splash screen which took 3sec to get me from there.

Re: Microsoft's Splash Screen Love

Every PC, Tablet, Phone or mobile device has a splash screen for everything.

It's the nature of the beast......and this is not only in Windows....Try a low end China made "Mini PC" for your TV that runs Android. After an hour of the splash screens there, you will think your 535 is Lightening fast.

Any way you see a splash as the device opens a program.....as it takes time for software to load into memory. Just play Diablo or World of Warcraft and you get Splash screen'd to death on a PC. One slow player in your group can even lag the best game rigs.
