My screen has gone black. I've tried the soft reset but it doesn't work.

When plugged into my computer it seems to keep turning itself on and off. Sometimes a thin green line appears at the top of the screen. I can see data from the phone on my computer and when my sister tried ringing me she could hear a ringtone but nothing happened to the phone.

Maybe the battery was totally drained. Keep it on the computer and copy the data (if you not did it already). If after a while it still is doing it get the SIM out. A problem with the SIM can cause thid kind of problems. Also get the SD card out if you have one. If it still does not come alive you probably need a hard reset.
