why has my phone become slow after Denim update

My Lumia 520 has become very slow after the Denim update. Apps which opened immediately earlier now take, say, 5 to 7 seconds to open. Whatsapp keeps closing on its own and opens also very slowly.

Try hard resetting the phone

Yeah... Make a good backup and reset.
