Why is my Nokia Lumia 520 taking over 24 hours to update still waiting?

nokia lumia 520 takes over 24 hours to update still waiting

I get the cogs rolling round and nothing else and the battery being drained

looks like your phone had a failed update or something like that.
most probably it is dead. You can still use the Lumia software recovery tool to restore it. But you will lose all data.

If you have an SD card in for phone get it out.

yes I had the same problem with my 620 remove the sd card restart your phone. Any apps that are installed on your sd card will not work right away.
So you may have to turn your phone on and off a couple of time after the update to all the apps that were on the sd card to function. At least that is how it worked for me.
