Windows Central Question

My Lumia's 920 touchscreen is frozen and i can't back-up my data !

Hi every one

My Lumia's 920 touchscreen is frozen and i came across a lot of articles that suggest to do a hard reset in order to fix it, but i don't want to lose my data or my photos. Because my phone is locked with a password and i can't type it, i can't access to it via my PC to do a back-up. So, is there any way to back-up my data before doing a hard reset

P.S. i do remember my password

Thanks

Re: My Lumia's 920 touchscreen is frozen and i can't back-up my data !

Indeed a problem.
Did you try a soft reset this should solve a "frozen" touch screen.
If this does not work it also could indicate a defect touch screen.

Do you have a second 920 which you can borrow. And are you able and willing to disassemble phones.
If so swap the panel assembly and than you should be able to login.

Could you please create an account and reply op this post the result?

Mine did that a couple weeks ago and stayed bricked like that for hours! Have you tried the button combo that will reset the phone?
Power - Volume down - Camera

Thats what reset my phone for me and I didn't lose any data on my phone.

I hope that works out for you!

A soft reset will help, just press and hold power and volume down button for 15-20 seconds till phone vibrates and it'll restart.

Welcome at WC but I am sorry that the reason is this problem.

First of all there is no way to get in a password protected device without using a password.

What could be is that your touch panel has a problem. It could be that the flex foil is not connected anymore. This you could check by open your phone .

Yes I did this on my Lumia 920. My 920's touchscreen was frozen for about 4 hours and I used that button combination as last ditch effort and it rebooted and I haven't had any problems since with the touch screen.

A soft reset = volume down + power till the phone vibrates.
So no camera button is needed for a soft reset.

Re: My Lumia's 920 touchscreen is frozen and i can't back-up my data !

Sorry but you just did a soft reset .
You have to push some more buttons then the 3 you pushed to do a hard reset.
And a hard reset is the same as a factory reset en will delete all data from your phone.

It's probably a miscommunication but after a soft reset you keep all your data and after a hard reset all the data on your phone is deleted.

try holding the power key in till it vibrates (~~10 seconds), release it immediately after vibration.

This is a different soft reset I use on my Lumia 1520. Dunno if it'll work, do know you won't lose your data.

Re: My Lumia's 920 touchscreen is frozen and i can't back-up my data !

Hey everyone

My Lumia's touch screen did work after one random soft reset, so immediately i deleted my password and copy all my data to my PC, then i re-install my micro sim card and restarted my phone, the problem came back again but fortunately i did back-up all my data. After that i soft reset my phone for more than 10 times but the problem was still there. Perhaps i will do a hard reset since all my data are saved. I don't know the cause of this problem but it looks like it is common among the Lumia users.

Thanks again every one for your time and help, especially Harrie-S.

I did try your method but it dose not work. Maybe it is exclusive for the Lumia 1520.

Thanks anyway for your time and help.
