In IE settings, scroll down to "advanced settings" and enable "smartscreen filter" to protect against unsafe websites... which, I would imagine, includes 95% of porn sites.

SORRY - that doesn't work ! guilty as charged, I've glanced from time to time.

I have smartscreen filter ON, it simply blocks malicious websites. Since some porn sites are semi-legit business sites (without any malicious payload), they'll pass the smartscreen filter. TRY IT ...

for the OP - you'd be better off locking down settings & ONLY allowing access to Kid's Corner (under SETTINGS) - with the apps you've selected to be in there.

There's also a browser in the Store (forgot the name) which allows ONLY strict safe search, a family friendly browser ...

semi-legit
:grincry:

To the OP.. If you're on your home network and have access to the router you could install a program that filters the websites your child wants to view otherwise you can ask your ISP to do this for you. If you use data then I have no obvious solution, but you could try to access IE via your pc set the sites you want to see blocked and then set IE to sync settings across all devices or you can also ask your network provider for assistance.. (not sure if these will work)

You don't have to tell them what's going on, but just tell them that you want this as a precaution; boys will be boys (lol)

Porn sites aren't inherently unsafe (I've heard actually that there are some seemingly legitimate ones that are even more dangerous, but its been a while)

but eh, i don't think you can filter it explicitly on the phone. You probably can if you access the settings of a wi-fi hotspot or contact your carrier to see if they offer that service.

although its not really like porn just shows up without one really looking for it. (not saying its 100% the rule though)

I was afraid of that. This is true, kids corners is probably the best solution for a "kid" to not go where they shouldn't on the Internet. Of course this would mean, denying access to the browser completely...

And I agree, the best way to go about blocking adult sites, would be to go through your carrier. I have AT&T myself, and I know they have parental controls available.

Though, one time, when Cortana was the new thing, and everyone was trying to get her to answer "what does the fox say?" I tried asking her that,... And I guess she heard me wrong! o_O (you can imagine the bing results I got lol)

How to block porn? Never did that with my kids, they can access it everywhere if they want. If you find ways to block it, they only get smarter.
I have learned to live with it and trust them on there own good judgment.
But not without a good talk first.

This. Blocking/not allowing makes it all just more desirable for them. Once they are old enough and smart enough to find ways to access porn they will do it anyway and probably in more extreme ways.
Instead of blocking you should educate them and simply check what they are doing on that device from time to time.
My parents never blocked stuff for me and they raised me without tons of rules and warnings. They didn't say if you smoke or do drugs you'll get a punishment. I never had the desire to do any of them. By blocking you'll only create desires that one day will evolve more extremely.
Your job as a parent is to give them healthy thinking minds. If you succeed at that they will not visit bad porn sites with extreme forms of sex that are repulsive anyway. And who cares if they see a normal healthy portion of sex once in a while by accident. It's not going to kill their brains trust me.

You could also make use of family safety. I've setup child accounts for two of my kids. Family safety has Webfiltering, where you can explicitely allow (white list) or forbid (blacklist) websites. These apply to any device connected to the according child account. No matter if it's a Windows 8.x notebook or a Windows Phone.
