I have WP 8.1.1, but phone still shows Lumia Black

My Nokia 929 (Icon) was replaced by Nokia Warranty Support. It came back with Lumia Black. I set up "Preview for Developers" and updated my phone to Windows OS 8.1.1. The confusing thing though is the phone still shows Lumia Black. Do I have a mix of old firmware and the new OS? I'm confused about what version of OS or firmware I'm running and how I can get the latest version to take advantage of the fixes that have come out.

Yes Windows OS versions are not the same as the phone hardware firmware version. The OS can be upgraded without a new firmware upgrade, but sometimes certain features are specific to a hardware revision so you need both a certain firmware revision along with the OS update that brings those features. So in short, you can keep upgrading the OS without the firmware getting upgraded, but at some point you may or may not be missing out on a few features that are specific to the firmware revision. (Depending on phone model)

The Dev Preview will NOT update the firmware unfortunately (unless an international carrier unlocked model) so to get Cyan or Denim for example, the carrier for your phone has to release an update for it.
