Office docs on WP in sub folders?

if I store office documents on my phone is it correct I can't have sub folders even tho I can create them in Explorer via WindowsPhone Documents folder?
WP doesn't seem to be able to see docs in any sub folders? Makes for a very flat file structure

I haven't tried a subfolder structure for documents on WP as of yet, but the exact same thing is working fine for images, music and videos. WP scans the entire file system for known files and puts them in the correct places. I'd be really surprise if the exact same thing wouldn't work for documents.

yes. does work for photos - I haven't tried vid, music yet.
I think I could have a file structure on OneDrive but I have some big Word docs I want on the phone so I am not chewing up my data usage.

Yup, just tried it, it doesn't work, Office can't see the file placed inside subfolder. Don't know why that was picked the best answer.

What you need to do is use an app called Files, and navigate to the Documents folder and the subfolder within. When you find your file you want to open, click it and it will open it for you.

Files works a treat. Looks like the Office UI won't be getting used much now.
shame it can't see OneDrive as well.
as an aside, I was even more excited when I found Files was available in the aussie app store, time and time again I see apps suggested I can't get. As a new user to WP there really needs to be a better way of finding and assessing apps. And the big disparity between availability/functionality across WP/Modern/Desktop is a nightmare
