I have a docking station for my Surface Pro 3. Should I leave it on when i finish my work?

When I leave my work, I currently turn of Surface Pro 3, even though I have a docking station. When I return and turn it back on, it always has to go into a shut down mode and restart. However, it never restarts. I have let it go for long periods of time and it just sits there. I notice I can lock it and walk away and come back later and it gets going right away.
