On my Lumia Denim, why are the background colors gray now rather than black?

Lumia Denim - The background colours and grey now rather than black

Hi guys.
Nokia 930 user here. Just updated to Denim as it was released in Australia.
I'm not having any issues with the phone however I am really annoyed at the colour change.
It's alot more grey than it used to be and it's quite annoying.
I don't mean the background of the start screen, but more when using certain apps.
Here are some examples:
When i launch the keypad in Phone app, the buttons are a very ugly grey.
When on a phone call, the background used to be black with grey buttons. It is now greyish background with ugly grey buttons.
When entering the PIN from lock screen, the greys are very ugly.

It's not a huge issue, but before the update I loved the phone and the colours, Now I'm sort of turned off by it.

Is this a normal thing with the Denim update?

Am I the only one to notice this?

And how can I sort out of the problem, because it's annoying me so much that I am thinking of reverting back to before the update.

That's weird, it sounds like a display calibration related issue. Have you tried turning off sunlight readability in settings (settings > display) or changing the colour profile to match?
