WPCentral Question

hey guys one of the lumia 525 user here...those rocking the windows 10 tech preview, do you still notice the resuming and loading screens when starting and switching to the app from the app switcher?(especially the 512 MB phones).
DID WINDOWS 10 BRING TRUE MULTITASKING? any display on RAM usage and related stuff?
thanks.

I'm running it on the 635, and both loading and resuming are gone. Instead you get a brief blank screen of the color of your theme, but it's hardly noticeable. Everything opens much quicker for me.

I seriously doubt you'd really want "true" multitasking on your Lumia 525.

From the videos which I have seen there is an approx 2sec blank theme colored screen instead of resuming screen which is same. I don't feel there is any type of new multitasking for now. Also the current file explorer app doesn't has access to system files, maybe they'll improve it. I'm only wondering about the new APIs ,are there any? Would it give the freedom the app developers want? Don't know.

Better get a device capable of such resource intensive features first.

Oh, get a better device what do you mean, many people brag wp works good even on low end hardware and i don't see any point where Lumia 520 can't even easily switch from ie to email app(so is it resource intense?) which shows 4 seconds of loading screen(not on pfd, made hard reset, flashed is via Nokia software updater more than 2 times)

Symbian had true multitasking. These were phones with limited cpu & ram and really small batteries. Yet it worked...

Due to the fact that the apps were coded efficiently. Haven't you realised that not every app is made for 8.1 and some apps are still made for WP7. If all of these apps were coded for WP8.1, we would have the resuming......... Problem anymore.

It's running so smooth on low end devices because of the way itself handling resources. On high end devices you barely ever see any resuming screen. It doesn't really feel any different than what you call true multitasking. Now if you get to wait a lot when switching apps, please imagine how your device would perform of all those apps were really actively running in the back all the time. See how low end Androids perform. It's rubbish.

the thing is even though the app uses winRT platform, the OS is designed to suspend the app utilizing the system resources when it goes to app switch or start. winRT reduces the time delay so it feels the resuming screen isnt visible much often

Exactly. Even iOS has a resuming 'problem' but it's masked by a brief screenshot of the app before it can be used.

So comparing low end droids with low end wp.Frankly speaking if your android runs on aosp then you would not see any lag when more than 4apps are suspended in background where in low end wp it sucks shows loading and resuming screen even when 2 apps are being multitasked(not resource intensive just small apps like ie,outlook mail etc).finally I am not here to praise android. OS has its own capability where current low end wp does not even compete with it.
May change after wp 10.
And also to say current low end android perform a lot better than high end WP in terms of multitasking.was multitasking up to 12 apps resource intensive for my project on dell venue 7 along with my friend Lumia 1520 which was multitasked with 7 apps heck showed resuming screen every time he switched apps

Frankly speaking I'm not able to see that resuming screen or loading screens but there is this weird blank accent color screen for 2-3 seconds

I was having the same issue. I did a hard reset and the accent color screen almost never appears now. Quick blink every once in a while, and once I had a "Loading..." screen show up for about a second or so. Lots of lag before a hard reset, smooth as butter after. At least for me.

I hope Microsoft solve multitasking problem in windows 10 final preview....
is there show any downloading progress in actionable notification centre? Ex-internet explorer and uc browser downloading progress in action centre?

If I'm not mistaken, if an app is written in WinRT (or 8.1 SDK?) it won't show the "Resuming..." screen

If yes then it's up to the developers, not Microsoft...
I just tested that theory by opening 6 apps and multitasking with them. First 3/4 apps have no resuming screens. Last two had 1 second resuming screens. It would be nice if every app had a splash screen or a screenshot of the app before it resumes because resuming..... Is really annoying. I think it depends on your RAM since I'm using a 735 with 1gb ram. On the 620 I had, the resuming screens started showing when switching between 3 apps. Maybe on the 930/1520 with 2GB RAM, you can switch with them flawlessly. But it is true though. If all developers used WinRT, there would be a lot less resuming screens
