Why do I receive messages at weird times?

I have a Nokia Lumia 521 and nearly every day, some of the messages sent to me are withheld for sometimes hours. I know that they were sent hours ago, because as soon as I get the notification, the time stamp on the text reads as the time it was sent, not the time i received it.
And i know its not just the notification coming in late, because I'll check the messages often to make sure if something got sent back or not. They're just being withheld?

Could be due to your phone not picking up a network signal?

Most often text delay issues are carrier side problems. Almost exclusively.

You have a 521... Is it on the original network it was designed for? (That would be T-Mobile US.)

Try having your carrier set up a new SIM for you.
