Why am I not getting some texts? (SMS)

I have a Nokia Lumia 521 my carrier is T-Mobile. I have only been getting some texts from a friend of mine who has an IPhone 5. My service is fine, 3 bars with 4G service. Along with my WiFi connection. I am confused as to why I am not getting a handful of texts but I am receiving some others. Please help ASAP

Try a soft reset. Hold Volume up + down + power on/off buttons for ~10 seconds. The phone should reboot.

Beyond that, is your phone running out of space?

For some reason my Mom's 520 stopped sending and receiving SMS completely. I did a soft reset and it worked again for a while, then the issue came up again. Another soft reset and it seems to have helped for a longer time, this time. I don't know if its a phone/OS bug or what.
