If you're talking about a Windows Phone, there's many ways. There is a Windows Phone app in the store that will sync photos and stuff. You can also do some stuff on WindowsPhone.com. It's easy to manage advanced contacts & calendar stuff on outlook.com. And after a usb connection is made to a pc, you can also drag and drop in file explorer. Also, OneDrive can pretty much automatically backup everything from text messages to photos & video. If that folder is synced to your pc than it's easy to look at them without having to connect, or just view with OD app on xbox or wherever.
