Guys I'm a big fan of 720 and recently launched 730...
But I would like to have 5 inch phone with similar configuration of 730.
Any upcoming upgrades to currently available 730???

Lumia 640 would be your best bet.
There are a few upgrades and a few downgrades. I suggest you run a comparison between 640 and 730 on various websites. 730 would be my pick because of the design and being a complete package overall.

Nope.
Considering it was launched in September, launching a successor before a year doesn't make sense. Buy the 730 because 0.3 inch doesn't make a huge difference. Instead the area around the screen will make the phone feel much bigger than it actually is.

Hi Gautam, I had 720 and now i have 730, believe me you will not regret with 730, it's there and it's available.
Same price bracket and same features in 5" I guess u will have to wait.
BTW 730 is 4.7", so not too much of a difference. :)

not the 640, it's still low end, the 830 is my recommendation although the 630 is a fine device.

if you can afford it the 930 is superior.

I don't understand why 640 is considered inferior to 730!!!
When we compare on all the sites, it shows the configuration of 730 and 640 almost similar... Infact 640 has bigger screen though resolution is the same and better primary camera!
I cannot afford 930 and 830 right now... Looking forward for a economic phone In terms of configuration and price....

Hey Sachin, thanks for your suggestion. When I compared 640 vs 730, I could not make out major differences.
IPS Screen resolution is lower (256 ppi) for 640 when compared to OLED 326ppi of 730 though the screen size is big. And some changes in camera also. Did anyone of you notice any major drawback in 640 hardware when compared to 730???

Isn't IPS display better than AMOLED?? Based on reviews that I have seen, IPS was given priority over AMOLED....

Its personal preference. AMOLED will have better blacks and saturated colors. IPS will probably be more color accurate, but that's not a given. AMOLED can have screen blur when your scrolling, IPS does not.

There's actually one HUGE con to AMOLED. That's permanent screen burn in. I have that problem on my 1020 after about a year and a half of ownership.

How about 256ppi of Lumia 640 XL vs 296ppi in 640 vs 320+ppi in 730?? Does it have major impact on daily use?
Any take on it?

Depends on your eyes. To me, there's an obvious difference between ~250ppi and ~320ppi. Anything under ~300ppi to me and pixels become apparent.

I wouldn't make a decision solely on that, though. Personal preference, I guess.

300 ppi seems to be the threshold for most to notice a difference as you move up and then after 300 ppi it gets hard to distinguish the difference unless you do a side by side with lots of up close squinting.

Do you like the bright, "lively" look of AMOLED or the more "natural" and less saturated tones of LCD?

LCD generally reports to have better daylight readability in full sunlight, but an antiglare screen protector can really enhance sunlight readability on an AMOLED screen.

If it were me... Buying brand new today from current gen. Lumia 830 all the way. It puts a check mark in a lot of areas.

  1. Looks (I dig the styling)
  2. Exchangeable backs (collect all the colors)
  3. Fairly recent and designed to be reasonably future proof
  4. LTE
  5. IPS LCD (I much prefer it to AMOLED)
  6. 294 ppi (very generous display depth without the battery sucking overkill of super-high ppi screens)
  7. Gorilla Glass 3
  8. ClearBlack (this is a very nice enhancement)
  9. Glance
  10. Double-Tap-to-Wake
  11. Color and Brightness Profiles + Sunlight Readability Mode
  12. Snapdragon 400 SOC w/ Sensor Core and access to Motion Data (no "Hey Cortana" is the big missing feature but you need an older phone to get that or must wait for some new mythical, not yet announced flagship from the Win 10 future...)
  13. 16GB internal + microSD up to 128GB
  14. 1GB RAM (seems more mandatory as acceptable these days)
  15. Dolby enhancement suite (Dolby Digital Sound, Dolby Audio Leveling, Dolby Dialog Enhancer, Virtual Surround Sound, Graphic Equalizer)
  16. Full Sensor Suite (Accelerometer, Proximity, Ambient Light, Gyro, Compass)
  17. Dual Band WiFi and DLNA (for wireless streaming to/from the device)
  18. Bluetooth v4.0 w/ Low Energy capability
  19. NFC
  20. Qi Wireless charging
  21. Camera Button (this seems to be disappearing from Lumia)
  22. PureView (like ClearBlack, a great enhancement - once you have it you see the difference and won't like doing without)
  23. 10MP w/ Carl Zeiss Lens
  24. Optical Image Stabilization
  25. 2200 mAh Battery should pull you through the day

There are just so many nice touches and upgrades on this phone that it should deliver a happy, smooth and powerful experience without any truly glaring deficits. I don't know what is not to like about this beauty...

Yeh 830 is a beast for its price range... I would love to have a phablet... Anything above 5 inch is what I'm looking for...
Do you think 256ppi on 640XL is too inferior to the above mentioned 300ppi 830?
Thanks a lot for taking your time for description...

That 640 XL pushes a lot of the same buttons and even has a camera upgrade to 13MP Pureview Zeiss OIS *drool*... I said 830 because you stated 5" screen. The reduction in ppi is probably not a bad trade-off. At least at 720 x 1280 it qualifies for 720p and is slight more pixel rich than the 1320. I would check the 1320 forum for reviews and see how the users like that screen. very similar.
