Should I reformat my SD card when changing phones?

I plan to upgrade to the Lumia 640 when T-Mobile makes it available. I currently have a 635. Should I reformat my SD card before moving it over? I would like to keep all of the app related data and settings that are currently on the card. I would back up the card to my PC in any case.

I wouldn't think you'd have to... But that's just a guess

Yes, apps stored on the card won't show up on the new phone. You'll have to backup all media and WhatsApp messages (if you use it) and then format the cards before switching phones
