I need help asap:Lumia 820 lock button doesn't work-how do I fix it?

My phones lock button doesn't work (Nokia Lumia 820) It wont turn on the screen or trun off the screen.I was thinking of starting all over.Has this happened to any of you?Pls Help.

Do you have a different shell? This is the 820 with removable back covers? My wife's 521 buttons on the shell had disintegrated pieces of plastic on the inner side, and you couldn't turn the screen on or off. Try pressing the power button with something with the shell removed?

Have you tried the double tap to turn on option? That combined with the screen timeout setting means you hardly ever need to use the lock button at all.
