Who replaced the battery?

If the service center replaced it, take it back to them immediately and report the issue.

If you (or anyone else other than the authorized service center), you could try checking if some dirt is getting in the way of the contacts of the button controls. If that doesn't work, you will still need to take the phone to a service center to have it checked and repaired.

I'm not sure what a "Motorola 1020" is, though.

I am not aware of a Motorola phone designated "1020" and cannot find such searching on the internet. By and large Motorola phones are Android and our sister site would help best: Ask Anything - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

If it is a Nokia 1020 then you are in the right place. Please confirm. Also, have you tried a Soft Reset? Hard Rest? Tool such as Lumia Software Recovery Tool or Windows Phone Recovery Tool? These steps would rule out a software issue. If it is hardware it may be difficult for you to service it yourself as the Nokia Lumia 1020 has a non-removable shell.
