Why does my display screen have to be read on the tablets side?

display screen doesn't flip it is locked to reading up an down as suposted stretched screen look? any option I may have accidently hit!

1. Open the charms bar and go to settings
2. Tap the brightness option (next to the volume)
3. Tap the icon of the screen with the lock
