Sony microSDHC UHS-I 16GB Memory Card with adapter Windows Lumia 640XL

Hi there I am a newbie to Smartphones. I have purchased the Windows Lumia 640XL with a Sim only deal. I also purchased the above microSDHC-I memory card and like others before me have received the Sony brand with an adapter.

I am 72 yrs young and although quite IT literate could I ask why the need for an adapter and how does one use it?

I am assuming that the SD card will work with the phone.

You can use this adapter (SD card size) to put the MicroSD card in and then insert it in your PC. Most PC's have a SD card slot but not a MicroSD card slot hence the adapter.
And indeed the micro SD card fits in your phone.

In the past there only where SD cards but these are "big" so microSD where made and with the adapter you still can use the micro SD card (small) in SD card (big) device
