Synaptics Pointing Device Driver
I own a Toshiba laptop that has served me very well since I bought it right after Windows 8 was released. However, every now and then the touchpad simply stops working. For a long time I've been trying to find a solution, but never cared enough to do major research. The basic features work; one finger for pointing, two finger tap for right click, double tap to drag. However, no gestures work. I can't scroll using the touchpad, I can't swipe from the right for Charms, and I can't swipe from the left for recent apps. Finally I noticed that every time these issues arise, Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, which always sits in my system tray, vanishes. I did a system check and it's nowhere on my computer. There is program data in my hard drive, but nothing else. It's like it no longer exists. However, it's still in my "Programs and Features" where I can uninstall it. Any help would be appreciated.
